Fiber Art Exhibitions

Hard to believe almost a year has passed since my new granddaughter was born. In the midst of making baby clothes--Wow. I am fortunate to have been busy dropping off and picking up art works from multiple exhibits-even had to enlist my husband as driver during my immediate foot surgery recovery. I had 2 pieces each accepted into the holiday shows at the Hanover Area Art Guild and the York Art Assn--honorable mention award at HAAG and award of merit at YAA. I juried 2 pieces into the Maryland Federation of Art  members exhibit with an horrible mention and another 2 pieces into the MFA Lowes House exhibit, second place award. I also have a piece accepted into the Blackrock Fiber Show and am please to announce that my Quilt featuring the lyrics from Jimmy Buffett's "The Rocket that Grandpa Rode" into the FMTTM Apolo moon mission quilt selections. I also have 2 works in the current HAAG Farm theme show as well as 2 fiber pieces and 2 dog portraits in York Gallery Group venues (Janney Financial and Talus Salon).

My First Quilt

The Potomac Fiberarts Gallery in the Torpedo Factory, Alexandria, VA, an artists cooperative, to which I belong typically has a new show approximately every month. The upcoming show beginning October 22 and running till November 18 has the theme "Black and White". The necklace in the last blog post was created for that show. I also chose to interpret the theme in a different manner-thread painting by sewing machine over a photograph of my puppy and another member of his litter. I call it "Brothers Under the Skin". It is presented as a small wall quilt (26"x23"). Joanne

Machine Embroidery Exhibit

I am almost finished the set of machine embroideries for my one person exhibit at the Delaplaine Visual Arts Education Center in Frederick, MD. I just finished framing the 19th one. I hope to complete 2 more this weekend as my dog agility seminar has been cancelled due to Irene. Subjects range from flowers to architecture (windows and doors) to lighthouses to animals. Hanging will take place next week. The opening is Saturday, Sept 3, 3-5 PM. Here are a few of the latest. Joanne
