Wedding Jewelry

My daughter is getting married soon and she loves green. Her dress is white but will have an under ruffle of green tulle, green shoes and a beaded green necklace and hair comb. The bridesmaids will be in short green dresses with different colored shoes and their own beaded necklaces. I get the job of making the beaded necklaces as well as gluing rhinestones on the differently colored flip flops for beach wear-yes, 15 min ceremony on the beach and then party in the beach bar-NJ not CA.

Bride and flower girl:

Details; bead embellishment over backing of right angle weave, Swarovski crystals as well as Czech pressed glass:

Bridesmaids sets, purple is junior bridesmaid:

Closures are vintage glass buttons from an old color sample button card with counterweight fringes.

The only snag is that the matron of honor is pregnant, due to deliver less than a month after the wedding and she didn't order a maternity dress--so my other daughter, the maid of honor, is giving up her dress, the largest size, to be made into a maternity style and dieting down to fit into the matron of honor's original dress. Whew! I'm glad my job was the beadwork! Joanne

More Beaded Bead necklaces

I have had a very difficult time trying to log in to my blog and repost since google took over, but I finally figured it out so here goes:

Actually the foot surgeries were $6 and #7 not #5 and #6 but they are over. Recovery from the foot surgeries was no problem. However, the knee roller destroyed my bad knee and initiated pain in my good knee-both of which have not recovered. So now I am waiting for knee replacement scheduling. My poor dogs--can't play with me.

I have finished 2 more beaded bead necklaces. I am having fun combining the beaded beads with other bead items. I will not be teaching at Common Ground in 2014, but hope to be back in 2015.

Another Award

Wow, I can't believe 3 awards in one month. I just received notification that my black and white necklace won first place in the Silversilk contest. The pendant is porcelain on sterling from Artbeads. I used square stitch to mimic the checkerboard pattern and peyote for the spiral part. I was able to stitch right through the silversilk to attach the beadwork to the knit-like flexi-chain. I believe it makes a very wearable piece. I did this piece for the next Black and White theme show at the Potomac Fiber Arts Gallery at the Torpedo Factory, 10 N Union St, Alexandria, VA which will run Oct 22 to Nov 19.

Here is a second necklace I did with the Silversilk and an etched glass pendant by Nikki Blanchard using a sterling and amethyst clasp from Star's Clasps.

Update by Joanne

Wow, has time been flying. My solo show is over as well as Holiday shows at the Yorktowne Chapter of the PA Guild of Craftsmen, the Hanover Area Arts Guild, and the York Art Association.  I am flattered to report that I won awards at the latter two.

I am now recovering from my second foot surgery this year and hope to be able to actually wear hard shoes this winter. I can't remember the last year I was able to have boots. It will be a new experience to have warm feet this winter.

While I have given up successive weekends of craft shows, I am preparing for two studio tours the first 2 weeks in December, one in Carroll County, MD and the other In Dickerson, MD. I do miss the meeting of customers that craft shows gave me. I will have an assortment of my machine embroideries, my pet paintings, my felted hats and accessories, my photography as well as my beadwork. I will be alternately demoing machine embroidery and beadwork at the Carroll County location in Taneytown.

In addition, I am the designated blogger for the month of November for the Potomac FiberArt Gallery in the Torpedo Factory in Alexandria, VA. Check me out there. Joanne

FGP#9 Female Disco Dancer

Turkey Day but I got up early. Luckily I have a husband who does the holiday dinners. So while he is preparing the turkey, I can be over in my back yard studio finishing up and posting Ms Disco.

First is to pick a place to begin. I chose the waist. Note that I am ignoring the colors of the photo and doing all of my dancers in the same color range as the first pair. Ms Disco poses an additional problem as the photo I am working from is particularly bad (I photographed UTube video clip dancers off my computer screen and then pasted different dancers together to get the pose and costume that I wanted).

In working the skirt, I exaggerated the creases in the skirt by stitching short rows to emphasize movement. When the skirt was at an appropriate place, I joined it to Mr. Disco's leg. Ms Disco's legs were done in the same manner previously describes in past posts. And off course she needs platform shoes.

When the lower body was finished, I went back to the waist and worked the torso upwards, extending bead ladders for the arms. Shading the bead colors and sizes provides roundness to the body and bust.

Hair and face were last. Due to the small size of the face area and the resolution limit of the bead size, face detail needs to be kept to a minimum. Now its time to go enjoy family and dinner. Joanne
